Wax Carving Jewelry and Lost Wax Casting

Beginner Level/No experience required, age 16+

Cost: $485

Tools and Supplies:  Student must bring their own tools, wax, and sterling silver. Cost starts at $75.  The amount of sterling silver depends on the weight of your final wax carvings. Silver prices change daily. Sterling silver casting grain is around $35 per ounce. You will need at least an ounce, maybe more. Scrap silver may be used if approved by instructor. A list of tools and supplies will be emailed upon registration. 

During this introduction to the art of wax carving jewelry and lost wax casting, you will learn to make jewelry while developing basic skills essential for building a strong foundation. Specific projects are demonstrated and you are allowed to work at your own pace while receiving individualized instruction in a small group setting.
Studio safety is taught as well as proper use of wax tools. The casting process is explained and demonstrated. Each student will make several jewelry pieces.

Materials:  Sterling silver, wax, and tools must be purchased by student

Projects:   Ring band, signet ring, pendant. More projects can be explored as time allows.

Skills taught: Wax carving jewelry using hand tools, addition of wax details with wax pen, proper technique for investment and casting of the wax carvings. Each student is allowed one flask of castings which can contain multiple carved pieces.
